Only an hour from Paris by TGV, Tours' central location is ideal for excursions to the Loire Valley's amazing chateaux along the river Loire. Touraine is also a food-lovers' region and has a number of specialities: red, rosé and white wines of Chinon, Bourgueil, Vouvray, Montlouis, goat cheese(Sainte Maure), cooked meats (rillettes and rillons). The SchoolThe school in Tours was opened in 1985. It welcomes around 350 students each year. Location: The school is located in a magnificently renovated 18th Century building, in the heart of the lively old town of Tours. Many restaurants and terrace cafes can be found steps away from the school in the shade of the quaint medieval buildings. Facilities: The school offers 9 spacious and comfortable classrooms, some of them with a view of the Charlemagne tower, a multimedia room, a rooftop terrace and internet access. Students: The school welcomes students of all ages from 18 years old to students in their 80ies. The average age is 34. The majority of the students come from Europe (Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Britain, Italy, Denmark, and more), North America and Japan. Bank Holidays: There are no lessons on French national holidays. Missed lessons are neither rescheduled nor refunded. The school has the following affiliations or memberships: FLE LessonsThe French lessons take place in the morning from 9am to 12.15 Monday to Friday as well as on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1.45pm to 4.30pm. They are organised by levels (elementary to advanced) and comprise a maximum of seven students. First day: Upon arrival at the school you will receive a file containing further information about the school and Tours. A teacher will take you on a guided visit of the school. You will then complete a written and oral placement test to evaluate your level. ActivitiesThe wine tasting course is given by a wine specialist who will teach you about French wine, wine making and the correct way to taste red and white wines. The school also organises many social and cultural activities each week. All students are invited to register and pay on site. If you want to do an activity which is not on the programme, don't hesitate to ask the school to help you organise it! Activities in Tours include various excursions (renowned Renaissance chateaux of the Loire Valley: Chambord, Chenonceau, etc as well as the homes of Ronsard, Balzac, and Leonardo da Vinci, various sports, concerts and meals in a restaurant. AccommodationThe course can be booked with or without accommodation. Types of accommodation include host family, appartment, bed and breakfast in a chateau (car required) or hotel. |
