Chambéry is the historical capital of Savoy, rich in culture, with wide pedestrian streets and many shops. The town’s charm is enhanced by the Saturday market, the carillon and the monthly antique fair. Being a university town, the students animate the night life during the school year. Chambéry is a 20-minute bike ride from Lake Bourget and at the foot of 2 natural parks. Chambéry is the perfect place for nature-lovers and people wanting to escape the activity of tourist towns.
The SchoolThe school in Chambery was opened in 1992 and is a partner of the IPAC School of Management. It welcomes around 650 students each year. Location: The school is situated in an 18th century castle, the Château de Boigne, in the heart of a magnificent park, à 10-minute walk from the town centre. It is an idyllic setting with a friendly atmosphere. Facilities: The school offers 4 classrooms, a student lounge with wireless internet access and a computer room. Students: The school welcomes students of all ages from 18 years old to students in their 80ies. The average age is 25. The majority of the students come from China, Germany, the US, Poland, Japan, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, Russian. Bank Holidays: There are no lessons on French national holidays. Missed lessons are not rescheduled nor refunded. The school has the following affiliations or memberships: FLE, Souffle, IPAC, University de Lyon, CCIS, CSN and Bildungsurlaub LessonsThe French lessons take place in the morning or in the afternoon Monday to Friday, for example two mornings and three afternoons. They are organised by levels (beginners to advanced) and comprise a maximum of eighteen students. The lessons integrate the four main language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. First day: The first day is an orientation day. Students need to be at the school at 9am. Students will complete a written and oral assessments. They will then have a guided tour of Chambery, an information meeting and a welcome reception. Lessons begin on the second day. ActivitiesThe programme includes two full day sky trips over the weekend. The school also offers an activity programme during the week in which you may participate on a pay as you go basis. If you want to do an activity which is not on the programme, don't hesitate to ask the school to help you organise it! Activities in Chambery include excursions (Chamonix Mont-Blanc, Genève, Red Cross Museum or the UN, Lyon and the medieval town of Perrouge, Evian and Lake Geneva, Annecy), mountain hikes (La Croix de Nivolet, La Dent du Chat, Chartreuse region, Massif des Bauges), cultural excursions and nature outings (Vanoise Nature Park, wine circuit, cheese circuit and Beaufort (cheese) circuit). Throughout the ski season, the school organises regular ski trips to the major ski resorts. AccommodationThe course can be booked with or without accommodation.
