The School

The school in Nice was opened in 1984. It welcomes around 1000 students each year.

Location: The school is located on the first floor of IPAG, one of Nice's most prestigious business school, 5 mins walk from the Old Town and the beach.

Facilities: The school offers 10 spacious and air conditioned classrooms, a cafeteria, a computer room and a terrace.

Students: The school welcomes students of all ages from 17 years old to students in their 80ies. The average age is 22. The majority of the students come from Europe (Germany, Russia, Spain, UK, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria). The rest come from New Zealand, Australia, Japan and the States.

Bank Holidays: There are no lessons on French national holidays. Missed lessons are neither rescheduled nor refunded.

Lessons

The French lessons take place from 9am to 12.15 Monday to Friday. Under exceptional circumstances, lessons may be changed to the afternoon. Lessons are organised by levels (specific dates for beginners) and comprise a maximum of ten students. The lessons integrate the four main language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

First day: Students are expected to be at the school by 9am. After an introduction to the school and staff, students sit a small written test. If there are less than 10 new arrivals on that day, lessons start at 11.10. If there are more than 10 new arrivals, lessons start in the afternoon or the following morning.

Activities

During the summer there is a varied activity programme in which you may participate on a pay as you go basis. Throughout the year the school will propose a limited number of activities, subject to student number. If you want to do an activity which is not on the programme, don't hesitate to ask the school to help you organise it!

Activities in Nice include museum and theater visits, sailing, bowling alley, various excursions (Monaco, Antibes, Gorges du Verdon), fantastic restaurants and much more.

Accommodation

The course can be booked with or without accommodation. Accommodation is usually booked from Sunday to Saturday. The following types of accommodation are available:

Host Family: You can choose a single room or a shared room with half board (breakfast and dinner). The families all live in Nice, mostly in the centre of town within walking distance to the school, sometimes a short bus or tram ride away. Accommodation is available on the Sunday before the course starts from 4 pm and should be vacated on the Saturday. Sheets are provided but towels are not.

Residence: The residence is located on the rue de France, about 3 minutes walk from the Promenade des Anglais and the seafront. It offers studios with a single or double bed and are about 15 square metres. Sheets are provided but towels are not. Wifi access is available and paid for on a coupon system. Check in takes place on Sunday evenings between 6pm and 10pm. Check out must take place on Saturdays or Sundays before noon. Note that a 150 Euros deposit is required.

Please note that the school charges a 35 Euros host family admin fee and a 60 Euros admin fee for residence, hotel and studio accommodation. Fees not included in the prices given below.
