Set on three hills, the city is drawn together by winding alleyways and steep steps with the Piazza del Campo at its heart. Siena is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe.

This course is aimed at students who wish to learn Italian and at the same time become acquainted with the culture, history and the current social and political situation of Italy.
The SchoolThe school in Siena was opened in 1991. The school welcomes around 400 students each year. Location: The school is situated in a historical buidling, in the heart of the Old City of Siena, just a short walk from the famous Piazza il Campo. Facilities: The school has 8 classrooms, a common room, a lovely terrace where students can hang out and study, an internet area and wifi access. Students: The school welcomes students of all ages from 16 years old to students in their 80ies. The average age is around 25 (depending on the chosen course). The majority of the students come from Europe, the rest come from North America, South America, Australia and Middle East countries. Bank Holidays: There are no lessons on Bank Holidays. Missed lessons are neither rescheduled nor refunded. The school has the following affiliations or memberships: Italian Ministry of Education, AIL, ASILS, ELITE, FIYTO, ALTO, Bildungsurlaub LessonsThe Italian language lessons take place from 9am to 12.15 Monday to Friday. They are organised by levels (specific dates for beginners) and comprise a maximum of twelve students. The lessons integrate the four main language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In the afternoon students are introduced to art and culture, history and folklore, press and films as well as the current political and economic situation of Italy. First day: You will need to be at the school between 8.30 and 9am. After the placement test, students are given an introduction to the school as well as the staff. The class lists and timetables are available in the afternoon. ActivitiesThe school organises many social and cultural activities each month. All students are invited to register and pay on site. If you want to do an activity which is not on the programme, don't hesitate to ask the school to help you organise it! Activities in Siena include free guided tour around the city, dinner in the Tuscan countryside, history of Art tours to the most important sights in Siena, free cinema italiano, Italian music, seminars, wine and cheese tasting in a typical wine bar, half and full day excursions (vineyards in the "chianti" region, Montepulciano, San Galgano, etc). AccommodationThe course can be booked with or without accommodation. Types of accommodation include host family with breakfast only or half board, flatshare, hotels and private apartments. |
